Voyages to Double Donations to Uluru's Anangu on Giving Tuesday

2 December 2024

Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia – operator of Ayers Rock Resort, Uluru – will match all donations to the Anangu Communities Foundation (ACF) this Giving Tuesday – a global generosity movement on 3rd December.
ACF Donations made between 3 December to 10 December 2024 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a total of $10,000 of Giving Tuesday donations.

Anangu are the Traditional Owners of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankuntjatjara (NPY) region, home to Uluru and Ayers Rock Resort. The vast NPY lands span 350,000 square kilometres of the Central Desert region across three states and encompass 26 remote communities - creating a unique set of challenges and opportunities.

The ACF so far has funded over $3m in projects to support the region’s remote communities. Now in its 21st year, the Foundation works with local organisations to fund projects important to Anangu; with a focus on building community capacity in healthcare, education, and economic and social participation.

Recent funded projects include:

  • The NPY Women’s Council’s award-winning Uti Kulintjaku project, helping to bridge cultural and language barriers around mental health in local communities. The project creates new language resources in Pitjantjatjara to help Anangu understand, name and navigate mental health challenges. For example, the Foundation funded the digitalisation of Uti Kulintjaku posters created for schools and healthcare settings.
  • The second edition of NPY Women’s Council book, “Traditional Healers of Central Australia: Ngangkari”. Ngangkari  are the traditional healers of NPY Lands who have looked after the health of their people for thousands of years. The book encourages understanding and collaboration with mainstream health services and the wider community.
  • A brand-new clean drinking water and ice vending machine at Mutitjulu, the township located at the foot of Uluru, ensuring 24-hour access to clean drinking water and cold ice where temperatures regularly reach 40+ degrees.
  • ‘Crows on Country’ - An education program which translates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ passion for AFL to increase school attendance and literacy in science and mathematics.  Jointly funded by Adelaide Crows Foundation, Bibbulmun Fund and Anangu Communities Foundation, and extended through 2025.
  • Transportation, accommodation and uniform funding for Anangu from Maruku Arts to travel to Sydney as part of the annual Dance Rites event at Sydney Opera House.

Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia CEO, Matt Cameron-Smith says: “We’re deeply respectful of our close connection with Anangu, which is why our dedicated Foundation team engages with community to ensure all projects are viable, sustainable and have the support of Anangu partners and stakeholders. This ensures projects make a real difference, delivering long-lasting benefits for the community.”

“There is still so much more to be done, and it’s only possible thanks to the generous support of donors and partners of the Anangu Communities Foundation,” he concluded.

No matter how big or small, donations this Giving Tuesday will ensure continued support for Traditional Owners of the NPY Lands. Giving Tuesday is the global generosity movement that started as "a day of doing good" in 2012 in response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Make a tax-deductible donation from 3 December to 10 December 2024 and Voyages will match it, dollar for dollar (up to a total of $10,000 across all Giving Tuesday donations).
